July 1, 2009 Internet Service Outage

Brightnet / Quality Cablevision / Goshen Fiber Network obtains Internet service from INdigital telecom, an affiliated company and local telephone provider in Allen County, Indiana.

On Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at 14:30 hours (2:30PM) , a critical main processing unit in a fiber optic transport service failed.

This isolated us from the global Internet, causing a general failure of our Internet service. A redundant processor should have provided uninterrupted service, but the secondary processor also suffered a catastrophic failure for unknown reasons.

Work to restore the outage began immediately, and the entire fiber transport system was replaced with a spare unit. This step was taken to ensure that the problem was fully resolved. Partial service was restored at 18:50, and service to INdigital subscribers returned to full operation at 19:10.

The failed circuit cards will be sent to the manufacturer for analysis.

As part of other work related to the outage, INdigital has immediately started work on a change of its network design to ensure the highest quality service possible.
